The Queen

Must be tough living under the shadow of someone more famous than the Queen of England, even she is the leader of the free world. And yet people loves someone more than her. I guess... well, personally Her Majesty should realize time has c-c-c-change. Keep up with the world, ma'am.

After the death of Diana Spencer, Queen Elizabeth II (Helen Mirren) is facing a dilemma about handling the situation publicly or privately. Everyone else seems have doubts with the Royal Family, except the new Prime Minister Tony Blair (Michael Sheen) who apparently adores her.

To tell you guys the truth, I watched this movie a long time ago, and yet didn't care enough to make the review as soon as possible. I found that squeezing the last milk of Diana's popularity seems to be cheap, although I do applaud the originality of the script because it is based on a real events. I remember I just got back from Paris when I heard Diana had a tragic death. And I don't find the storyline about the Royalty, beside Diana and William probably, is fascinating. I found that they are leading a boring lives despite their royalty and all the glitters around them. The Queen herself and her family lives by the tax payers without actually leading the country. I found her a snobbish person, who keeps everything inside and very closed-minded with the new era. Compare that to young Tony Blair who opens with everything and managed to turns the situation better because he was willing to make his hands dirty.

I know several people similar like the Queen; they only lives by their own rules and doesn't want to know others' people problems. In the modern world, I can safely say that the Queen is like Bree Van De Kamp from "Desperate Housewives". A really unpleasant but still has a soft spot which is hard to find. But that is neither here nor there. Helen Mirren is great as Queen Elizabeth. She gaves a vulnerability performance behind the tough exterior, and she looks exactly like the real Queen Elizabeth. So far the casting was great, I didn't have any complain, although I thought they could do better with the likeness because I thought the only person who looks like the real ones is Helen Mirren. I do like Mark Bezeley as Alistair Campbell, Tony Blair's right hand man -- he was sneaky bastard and a sleaze ball, and yet entertaining. Overall, I really didn't care about the movie. It feels old. If the movie was made 10 years ago, I might appreciate it more. But we moved on, so visiting Diana's death is not actually memorable experience. Enough is enough with Diana. Let her rest in peace. Although hypocritally, I would see a movie about Diana herself.
