Warning: Be aware when you're watching this movie, you would go blind from over-exposure to pure awesomeness! One of the best animated films that I throughly enjoy over and over again. A movie where adults and children alike can enjoy together. How rare is that? With dazzlingly animated fight scenes and the likable characters, I found this very entertaining.
Po (Jack Black) is a fat panda who works in the noodle restaurant owned by his goose father, Mr. Ping (James Hong). Po is a kung fu fanatic who dreams about becoming a kung fu master like his idols, The Furious Five. Unfortunately, his father wants him to take over the restaurant someday and dismiss his dream. One day, Master Oogway (Randall Duk Kim) has a premonition that evil Tai Lung (Ian McShane), a former student of Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman), will escape from prison and returns to bring chaos to the valley. Master Oogway decides to choose a Dragon Warrior to defeat Tai Lung, and somehow points to Po as the next Dragon Warrior. Will he able to fulfill his dream and everyone's expectation?
At first I thought this would be one of those animated movie for kids with the usual kiddie stuff and might not be as entertaining. Not to mention this animated movie was made by Dreamworks who responsible with Shrek franchise, which I'm not a fan of. I am more of Pixar fan, so I lowered my expectation when watching this movie. Whadaya' know? I had a blast watching this movie! The movie is funny, entertaining, and in a word of Jack Black; AWESOME! I love the wuxia or martial arts setting in this film, because not only this movie delivers the good, it delivers everything. The animation is so clear and flowing and very beautiful I might add. It raises the bar for animation, with its amazing colors and styles. I love it. The music is great, the characters are entertaining, the script is not boring, and I was so satisfied watching the whole movie.
I laughed so hard when watching this movie. It has been a long time since I gave a hearty laugh. I remember there was a scene that was so funny, I laughed for five minutes until my side hurts and tears rolling down my cheeks. I can't tell you which scene, but I really recommend you to see the movie so you'd see what I mean. I applaud the writers, the animators, the actors, and everyone that involved in this film making, because this movie is really good. Not bad for an animation made by Dreamworks! I love the music because it really gave the sense of ancient China ala wuxia films, and I really respect that because the filmmaker really wanted to make a heartfelt wuxia movie, instead just cashing out from their voice actors. Beside Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman, the Furious Five are being voiced by Angelina Jolie as Tigress, Lucy Liu as Viper, Seth Rogen as Mantis, David Cross as Crane, and Jackie Chan as Monkey. The action is awesome, and the story actually reminded me with Kung Fu Hustle starring Stephen Chow -- a very funny wuxia movie. Overall, great movie and totally recommended for adults and children alike.
Due to my hectic schedule, I will not be able to review all new movies every week. I apologize. I will however review some older movies from DVDs from time to time. Thank you for understanding.
