Egad! What a waste of talented actors in this piece of lame movie. I'm not gonna say crappy, because I had a very low...I mean a very low expectation about this movie, so when the film did suck, I wasn't surprised at all. But still, come on! Can Hollywood at least bring a decent storyline for a comedy? Why did they make it so bad, huh... I just don't get it!
Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Steve Martin) has to solve the murder of a famous soccer coach Yves Gluant (Jason Statham) and find out who stole the famous Pink Panther diamond. Chief Inspector Dreyfuss (Kevin Kline) need a scapegoat so he assigned Jacques Clouseau to investigate, so when he fails, he will take over the investigatoin and win the medal of honor. He pointed several people to help the Inspector; Gendarme Gilbert Ponton (Jean Reno) and Nicole (Emily Mortimer) as his assistent. The main suspect is Yves Gluant's girlfriend, Xania (Beyoncé Knowles).
First of all, I was by myself watching this in the cinema. Nobody was watching this film, and I found myself in a big empty studio seats. No worries, I thought I could killing some time. Man, what a dissapointment. There are movies about slapsticks comedy, funny one liners and dialogues, etc -- but this movie is just lame-ass. The only good thing about this film is the theme music from Henry Mancini; the Pink Panther theme. And I just had a flashback of watching Indonesian trio comedy of Warkop. Before I start to break down the whole thing, lemme give you the news; Clive Owen is in this movie making a cameo as Agent 006 Nigel Boswell. He appears during the second act -- and I did a spit take. He's making a spoof of James Bond; showing up in the casino with a suave attitude and tuxedo, wearing gadgets and stuff, and instead drinking martini, he's drinking flaming blue. I literaly yelled and throw the popcorn to the screen, "That's not fair! How dare you refuse the James Bond part! Why are you mocking this!?" Damn him. Clive Owen's part of 006 may be an ironic reference to the fact that Owen was once considered for the role of James Bond. He looks sooooo handsome. And his cameo is one of the good things about this movie. The rest....naaah, not so much.
I am too lazy to even review this movie. The movie is boring; plain and simple. It's predictable, and Steve Martin making an ass of himself. He's trying too hard to be funny. He falls down here and there, had accidents, tripping into something, yadda yadda... Yes, his accent is silly. But other than that, I just slap my forehead and groan. I'm fine with other people's performances...but please someone give Jean Reno a decent role or something. Whatever happened to his killer performance in Leon:The Professional? Beyoncé Knowles cannot act! Stick to singing, and stop appearing in movies. This movie is only a stepping stones for her music album soundtrack. It's all about money, people. There isn't much to the plot. It is a cat and mouse plot that has been copied over and over in movies. Emily Mortimer just plain annoying with her fake French accent, made me think twice about her ability to act -- or she's just in a wrong movie. The setting is not bad, with the whole Paris scene and New York scene, great camera movement and cinematography, beautiful people...but with bad acting. And why people are speaking English in this movie? They are French! Everyone's acting is over the top and unfunny, I just wondered why they have guts to insult my intelligence.
Due to my hectic schedule, I will not be able to review all new movies every week. I apologize. I will however review some older movies from DVDs from time to time. Thank you for understanding.
